Our Story
New Canaan Toy Store is widely considered to be the oldest continually operating toy store in New England. It is locally-owned by Connecticut native, Nathan Shapiro.
A message from Nathan:
New Canaan Toy Store opened in 1928. Originally a general store that carried other items as well as toys, it evolved into a specialty toy shop in the 1940s. Since its founding, it has remained independently owned and operated.
Today New Canaan Toy Store is operated by my family and me. I bought this store because I wanted to own a small business where I could connect personally with families, and offer high-quality toys and books that help children learn and grow, and most of all have fun.
We have free street parking available in front of the store on Park Street and in the CVS parking lot on Cherry Street.
In a rush? We offer curbside service. Call ahead and we’ll bring your purchase right to your car.
We also, of course, wrap gifts.
